Wisdom Tooth Extraction

The third molar is called the wisdom tooth. Since this tooth erupts at about 17, so it is called the wisdom tooth. There are four wisdom teeth in the upper and lower jaws of each human being. This tooth may not erupt in some people, because some wisdom teeth’s buds do not form during embryonic life. The wisdom teeth may be impacted due to some reasons, such as hereditary, childhood diseases, and anemia. If the jaw has no space for the wisdom tooth or caries has developed, and the tooth is not repaired, the wisdom tooth will be surgically removed in the emergency dental clinic.

In Which Cases, the Wisdom Teeth Must Be Surgically Removed?

  • Infection of the overlying gum on the tooth
  • Caries for front teeth
  • Disturbing the order of the anterior teeth and overlapping them
  • Creating a bad path for prosthetic work

Wisdom Teeth Removal

After anesthesia injection, the procedure of wisdom tooth extraction is similar to other natural teeth if the tooth has fully erupted, and the tooth crown is fully identified. But the impacted and semi-impacted teeth are surgically removed in dental clinic. Wisdom teeth extraction is easier to do in adolescence because the bone around the tooth is thicker and less firm.

Preparation for Surgery

You may have to take a few days off from work or school to have enough time to rest. Get enough sleep and rest before surgery. Keep calm, and if you are nervous, take sedative pills before surgery after consulting your surgeon.

Be prepared for a half-hour surgery. If your tooth has erupted fully, it will be removed without any cut. If your tooth is partially impacted, a gingival incision will be necessary. The surgeon then removes the jawbone and sometimes cuts the tooth so that it can be removed easily. Stitches are used to align the cutting edges.

After Surgery

Limit your activity over the next few days. The surgeon will give you a direction for pain relief and, if necessary, antibiotics and instructions for home. After the wisdom teeth surgery, the cavity remains in place, requiring cleaning. Until the cavity is completely repaired, you may feel uncomfortable in your mouth.

After Wisdom Tooth Extraction

  • Slowly open and close your mouth to practice your jaw.
  • Eat soft foods like pasta, rice, or soup.
  • Start brushing from the second day.
  • Do not rinse your mouth with water violently. The emergency dentist may recommend rinsing your mouth gently with saltwater.
