Cocaine Detox Experience Can Be Daunting

If someone takes a drug such as cocaine habitually, their body becomes used to the effects of the drug in their system. A person’s body will begin to function at a new internal balance. Due to the new set of homeostasis in the body, their body beings entirely dependent on the drug. Sudden withdrawal from the use of cocaine causes the body functions to be thrown off. The result of this unstable balance can lead to both predictable and unpredictable symptoms. These coke withdrawal symptoms can be emotional and physical.

Most drugs result in physical dependence and the withdrawal symptoms that are experienced will be the exact opposite of the feelings that the drugs induced.  This means that if a certain drug makes one feel euphoric and extremely happy, the withdrawal symptoms most likely experienced will be severe depression.

How Long is the Cocaine Withdrawal Timeline?

Symptoms of using cocaine usually include an extreme sense of euphoria. This is due to a massive release of the norepinephrine and dopamine hormones. If a person quits using this drug after regular use or after a cocaine binge, they will experience what is known as “a crash”. This is an experience of going from feeling extreme highs to extreme lows.

During this crash period, people experience the following symptoms:

  • Increased anxiety
  • Inability to feel pleasure
  • Increased sleepiness
  • Irritability
  • Cravings for more cocaine
  • Depression
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Paranoia

As you can see, the coke withdrawal symptoms that one experiences don’t include many physical symptoms that are intense. However, the emotional symptoms are extremely prominent and can be very dangerous.
